It was a beautiful warm (60’s) weekend here in Iowa. I spent part of Saturday with all the windows open in the house. It’s not often I can do that in November. Hurricane Ida, that is now steaming across the gulf toward Pensacola Florida is expected to cause Whether moving across the country to slow down so it looks like most of this week will also be sunny and unusually warm, which is good news for my downstairs tenant as he is in the process of moving out. According to Reuters, Ida killed 124 people in El Salvador with heavy rains, flooding, and mudslides as the storm lashed the country. The storm is weakening as it heads north but Florida and Alabama could still see heavy rain when it finally makes landfall.
Also, over the weekend, in a rare Saturday night vote, the House of Representative passed the health care reform bill HR 3962. While the bill includes the public insurance option it also includes a mandate forcing everyone to either buy insurance or face a tax penalty. While I’m in favor of the public option I am strongly opposed to the mandates and view them as a government invasion of personal liberty.
The military released the identities of those who lost their lives in the shooting at Fort Hood last week, while the media and the blogosphere speculated on the motives of the shooter. Many on the right are disparaging Muslims in general, forgetting that thousands of American’s who adhere to Islam proudly and patriotically serve our nation.
