“We ought therefore to suspect that a great mass of information respecting the Bible, and the introduction of it into the world, has been suppressed by the united tyranny of Church and State, for the purpose of keeping people in ignorance, and which ought to be known.”
Thomas Paine

While Americans continue to struggle making ends meet with unemployment hovering around 10%, health care bills and bad home loans driving main street into bankruptcy, Washington continues to play games with our lives and our futures.

Democrats continue to negotiate away the best parts of health care reform while giving into the worst demands of the the Republicans and lobbyists.

Republicans continue to make demands for certain things and then turn 180 degrees and oppose those things when Democrats concede to them.

It’s enough to make a person want to pull out their hair and cry “Uncle”, which it appears that Democratic Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana has done in declaring on short notice and without warning Democratic leaders ahead of time, that he will not run for Re-election in this year. In his announcement speech yesterday, he took several well deserved pot shots at his Senate colleagues.

I love helping our citizens make the most of their lives, but I do not love Congress.

Two weeks ago, the Senate voted down a bipartisan commission to deal with one of the greatest threats facing our nation: our exploding deficits and debt,

Just last week, a major piece of legislation to create jobs — the public’s top priority — fell apart amid complaints from both the left and right.

And this morning he told Good Morning America

There’s just too much brain-dead partisanship, tactical maneuvering for short-term political advantage rather than focusing on the greater good, and also just strident ideology, The extremes of both parties have to be willing to accept compromises from time to time to make some progress because some progress for the American people is better than nothing, and all too often recently, we’ve been getting nothing,

According to the Iowa Republican Republicans are going to invoke rule 60 in order to force a vote on an amendment that would end Marriage Equality in Iowa and write discrimination into our state constitution. Marriage Equality opponents have been trying to force their narrow minded views on the state ever since the Supreme Court ruled that the 1994 state DOMA law was unconstitutional. They want to force people like me back into second class citizenship. As the state continues to struggle with economic issues, all the Republicans seem to care about is putting Theology back into our government and increasing government intrusion into lives of Iowans who simply want to live and work in peace and equality.

Update: According to the Iowa Independent, a bid to invoke the rule in the Senate by Minority Leader Pual McKinly, R-Chariton, has failed to get enough signatures on their petition. It’s sad to think that the source of this hate seems to come from someone representing my home town.

A similar attempt is currently ongoing in the house.

Update 2: According to the Iowa Independent, the effort in the house has also failed.

Here is a video of them talking about their petition.

Peter Sprigg from the Family Research Council, one of America’s leading Anti-gay groups that has been fighting very hard along side other groups like the hurtful National Orginization for Marriage, was on Chris Mathew’s show debating the hearings that went on today in congress in regards to the repeal of the discriminating Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy which continues to force gay and lesbian services members out for no other reason that they were born gay.

Oddly, toward the end of the segment, Peter, at the questioning of Chris, stated that he felt that homosexuals should be locked up. This is what they are really after when they pass constitutional amendments in state after state stripping us of our rights to things like marriage, or adoption, or protection under non-discrimination laws and hate crimes laws. In the end, these people, who would turn America into a Christian Theocracy (boy that works well in Iran don’t it?) will not be satisfied until people like me are rounded up, tattooed, and sent to camps to await our turn in the shower.

The ridiculous policy of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell that was signed into law by President Clinton that supposedly gave GLBT people the ability to serve in the military as long as they don’t reveal that they are gay looks like it is on it’s way to being repealed. In the state of the union address the President mentioned repealing the process, much like he did during his campaign. Today, Defense Secretary goes before a congressional committee today to discuss ways on how the Military will adapt to the removal of the discriminatory policy that forces military members to lie and hide who they are which is completely the opposite of the ideals that the military tries to instill in people. Here’s to hoping that this time they get it right and abandon this policy that has forced career military personnel out of the service for no reason other than what they born to be.
